Whoever built my mom’s house put in an outlet under the portico specifically for Christmas lights.

Our townhouse has a water spicket in the garage for some reason. Other then the water heater being very close I have no idea why.

We do, too. Other than for washing cars, I have no idea what you would use it for.

So you can have a hose hooked up, but stored indoors during the winter, to make it easy to rinse salt off cars? We had one in the shop where I used to work, and you could even mix in hot water...

It doesn’t seem like our garage would drain that well either. All I can think of is it’s closer to our guest bathroom and more *secure* inside the garage even though we have an open to the public one out back.

The hot water would be nice but all I can think of is lazy plumbing and not wanting to take it the extra 12 feet to the exterior of the front instead.

The only “exterior” faucet in my townhouse is the hose spigot in the garage. I use it to wash cars in the driveway.

Besides the one in the garage, we have another one in the back yard, and one in the front of the house, probably 30 feet from the one inside the garage (corner lot, garage is on the side of the house).

90% of the time when washing cars, I forget about the garage faucet and end up using the one in front anyways.

better than whomever built the house im in at mo... i have 4 sockets mounted upside down under the kitchen cabinets.. straight above the sink... and from what i can tell they’re not earthed.

also when my fusebox melted a few weeks back i learnt it did not have an rcd.... lucky shit didnt burn.... now have a fancy newfangled fusebox with rcd after having a shitfit at the landlord

Our garage used to be a carport, so it has that...

Plus a dryer vent that shoots directly into the garage, making everything 100% humid. My first home project when we bought the place was to re-route it the whopping 2 feet outside. One turn, one hole.

The caveat is that the outlet is tied to the same light switch as that dome light... You can only have the christmas lights on if you leave the dome on.

It’s so you don’t have to undo the hose and wrap the faucet during winter, or let it drip.

The house I had in Colorado had a hot and cold water spicket in the garage. Made washing cars in winter bearable. I wish that would catch on everywhere.

I don’t know why electrical is an afterthought when designing houses. I know most contractors do the bare code minimum, but it’s such a wasted opportunity. Switched exterior outlets, phone/tablet charging stations, in-wall nightlights, Cat5/coax, in wall speakers, etc, should all be standard in every house. Just take some cash out of the Hideous Light Fixture budget or maybe keep the false gables under a dozen.

My parents had outlets added like that on the house they had built. My mom was nuts for lights and requested them on two dedicated circuits.

If I ever rewire a house I’ll probably do the same.
